How it all began

In early 2010, Alice arrived in Nairobi to volunteer at a home for abandoned babies as part of her gap year and has been involved with the home ever since. Having regularly returned to Nairobi and worked with a number of other organisations, she decided to leave her job in investment management. She then worked full-time with the projects whilst setting up Kidogo Adventure in order to enable other people to participate in this wonderful experience. As the original projects were in Kenya, the current adventures are based there - but who knows what the future holds!

About Us

Kidogo Adventure is a small, personally-run organisation to enable travel and adventure through volunteering. Kidogo means 'little' in Swahili - Kidogo Adventure is designed to allow you to experience a 'little adventure' whilst also providing valuable help to the organisations that you volunteer with. Every 'adventure' is tailored-made - you will be placed on projects to suit your preferences and experience, whilst also enjoying what Kenya has to offer. The adventures are short-term, running from 1 week to 6 weeks in duration, but with a busy schedule to allow you to get the most out of your trip.

Our current projects are all based around children with volunteers being placed in baby homes, children’s homes and schools.

Whilst on your adventure, you will have the chance to visit a number of community projects and schools, as well as the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre, Animal Orphanage and other local attractions. For trips of two weeks or longer, there is at least one weekend safari included.

Once you sign up to join us, we will work with you to plan your trip, ensuring that it goes as smoothly as possible. Although we cannot organise your flights, visas, vaccinations etc. we can provide guidance - please ask if there is anything you are unsure of! We will put together a fun-filled itinerary for you and from the moment you walk out of the airport in Nairobi until you leave, you will be well looked after by the Kidogo Adventure Team.

We have our own comfortable house in one of the secure residential compounds in the west of Nairobi, where you will be based for the duration of your stay. All your food is included; we have a wonderful cook who prepares breakfast and dinner every day and lunch is provided on the projects or with the activities.

Unlike some other organisations, all activities (including the safari) are included in the cost.
